About the Journal
Aim:
Netnography is an international academic journal dedicated to advancing the theoretical, methodological, and applied dimensions of digital ethnography as a research paradigm. Its aim is to consolidate and expand the field of netnography as a rigorous qualitative method for understanding human experience, culture, and social interaction in digital environments. The journal promotes interdisciplinary dialogue among researchers in social sciences, communication, marketing, cultural studies, and related areas, fostering critical reflections on ethics, epistemology, and innovation in online ethnographic research.
Scope:
The journal welcomes original research articles, methodological papers, theoretical essays, and applied studies addressing, but not limited to, the following areas:
- Foundations and evolution of netnography: Historical, theoretical, and epistemological developments of digital ethnography as a distinct methodological field.
- Methodological design and online fieldwork: Innovations in data collection, observation, and analysis within social media, digital communities, and hybrid environments.
- Virtual communities and digital cultures: Study of practices, values, and identities emerging from online spaces such as social networks, gaming worlds, and participatory cultures.
- Consumer research and digital markets: Netnographic approaches to brand communities, influencer cultures, digital consumption, and marketing transformations.
- Ethics, reflexivity, and algorithmic mediation: Discussions on consent, anonymity, privacy, and the researcher’s role in digitally mediated contexts.
- Hybrid ethnographies and multimodal data: Integration of offline and online experiences, visual and audiovisual materials, and new digital forms of ethnographic evidence.
- Sociotechnical imaginaries and digital transformations: Interdisciplinary perspectives on how technologies shape social relations, institutions, and collective imaginaries.
- AI, automation, and the future of qualitative research: Exploration of how artificial intelligence, data analytics, and algorithmic culture redefine ethnographic interpretation.

Frequency of Publication:
The journal operates on a continuous publication model, where articles are published as soon as they are ready, ensuring timely dissemination of the latest research and developments in AI.
Speed of Publication:
The journal manages the following times of the editorial process: 10 days for the first response from the section editor or pass to peer review; 30 to 45 days responses from the editor on the observations of peer reviewers; 20 days in layout, metadata uploading and publication on the journal's site.
The editorial team combines rigorous peer review with the efficient timing of the editorial process, which is done exclusively in electronic format.
